About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Continuously improve understanding of the product, user base, growth trajectory, and state of play
- Partner with product managers and company leadership to inform long-, medium-, and short-term product strategy
- Help define useful metrics and set clear goals
- Share regular insightful updates with the team and across the company
- Partner with engineers on clean and thorough logging, ETL, and improving data ergonomics
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4+ years of experience as analyst or in a similar technical role
- Solid understanding of product growth concepts and frameworks, including retention curves, cohort analysis, and growth accounting
- Advanced SQL knowledge
- Familiarity with BI tools, including Snowflake and Periscope
- Strong data visualization skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to design legible dashboards and clearly convey salient insights
- Solid understanding of A/B testing and experimentation concepts, including test design, power calculation, post-hoc analysis, and novelty effects
- Strong product sense and intuition
- Deep understanding of Substack’s product, user base, and market position
- Ability to work independently with limited resources and support
- Experience working with Trust & Safety and/or Sales and Partnerships data is a plus
