About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and participate in designing, developing, and deploying Java REST web service APIs and microservices
Use Docker and Kubernetes for API and microservice deployment
Ensure service designs follow approved architecture
Incorporate emerging API technologies
Build event-driven services using Kafka
Use and enhance DevOps tools and continuous delivery processes
Mentor and support colleagues
Identify, debug, and resolve service defects
Support legacy APIs using technologies such as WebSphere, DB2, and Java UI when required
Build microservices and domain services accessing MongoDB and PostgreSQL
Build event-driven processes and microservices consuming Kafka topics

Requirements

What you’ll need

Post-secondary Computer Science diploma or degree
More than 5 years of Java application analysis and development experience
More than 5 years of progressive information technology experience across the full application development life cycle and systems integration
Strong experience with Java APIs, REST, SOAP, Spring, JSON, Open API, Swagger, web services, and web hosting technologies
At least 1 year of experience with DevOps tools including Jenkins, Artifactory, BitBucket, Maven, CDD, and Ansible
At least 2 years of experience with Kafka and/or Kafka Streams with KSQL
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills
Experience managing and coordinating team activities in a multi-site environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
French and English bilingualism, oral and written, required for Quebec positions
Must obtain Reliability Status Clearance as a condition of employment
Must satisfactorily complete applicable background checks
Periodic weekend/after-hours work may be required
Occasional travel between Sun Life locations may be required
