About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Long Term Disability claims team
  • Lead, hire, train, retain and motivate claims professionals
  • Ensure efficient, effective and compliant team operations
  • Evaluate team plans and drive continual improvement
  • Develop and foster client relationships
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners regarding client block profitability
  • Address client complaints and issues promptly according to service standards
  • Use operational metrics and reports to track trends and results and adjust tactics
  • Develop and communicate internal policies, procedures and systems
  • Support technology initiatives that enhance claims management efficiency
  • Support and execute claim management initiatives
  • Conduct internal and external training sessions
  • Conduct internal and external claim audits
  • Participate in new client prospecting and implementation
  • Participate in industry meetings
  • Participate in product development and enhancement
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible disability claims experience
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Technical proficiency in disability products and claims
  • Appropriate TPA licenses maintained in accordance with the Claims Licensing Policy
  • Prior management experience is a plus
  • Proven ability to train and motivate employees
  • Ability to give candid and meaningful feedback
  • Expert ability to interpret and communicate disability policy/contract language
  • Experience with multiple and complex disability claims issues
  • Experience generating, selecting and implementing solutions
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local disability regulations
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and strong written communication skills
  • Solid mathematical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict-management skills
  • Presentation skills for small and large groups
