About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Medical Stop Loss manual underwriting team
  • Assign workloads, manage priorities and rush requests, answer complex underwriting questions, and ensure productivity and service standards
  • Collaborate with senior Underwriting and Sales leaders to align work with business objectives, underwriting guidelines, and preferred partner expectations
  • Lead interviewing, selection, and onboarding of Manual Underwriters and temporary employees
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to newly hired Manual Underwriters and temporary resources
  • Update policies and procedures as needed
  • Implement underwriting process and practice improvements identified through Quality Control reviews
  • Build a high-performing, engaged team through recognition, clear expectations, performance management, root-cause analysis, and development plans
  • Promote compliant, consistent, and efficient underwriting practices
  • Support the Training and Development Program
  • Ensure consistent application of underwriting guidelines and sound independent decision-making

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the Medical Stop Loss industry or Business operations field
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, mentoring, or serving as a technical lead for an operations team highly preferred
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong operational foundation, including workload management, service delivery, quality, and process improvement
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, balance multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail
  • Strength in coaching, mentoring, and performance management
  • Ability to encourage, influence, and guide individuals and teams
  • Ability to work in the contiguous states plus Alaska
