About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support and lead formal Government of Alberta consultation processes
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities
- Ensure open and respectful communication
- Coordinate meetings, gather feedback, and address community concerns
- Collaborate with internal teams to support consultation and engagement efforts
- Implement engagement strategies that foster mutual understanding and cooperation
- Lead and/or participate in and report on engagement activities
- Support consultation and engagement activities associated with Suncor’s upstream operations, including mining, in situ, reclamation, water management, and regulatory and operational initiatives
- Oversee Government of Alberta consultation processes
- Drive stakeholder engagement and coordinate consultations
- Ensure community feedback is captured and addressed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Seven or more years of relevant work experience, including experience with formal consultation processes in Alberta
- Undergraduate degree in a Social Sciences field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Cultural agility and experience working with Indigenous communities
- Strong communication skills and ability to navigate relationships with sensitivity and empathy
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage shifting priorities
- Ability to collect, document, and present information to support formal consultation requirements, such as issue notes, policies, key messages, corporate disclosures, and risk assessments
- Ability to work from the physical office location in Fort McMurray or Calgary
- Ability to work a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- Ability to work extended hours or on-call hours based on business needs
- Ability to travel occasionally to communities in the Wood Buffalo Region and Suncor operating sites
- Participation in an on-call rotation for community notifications
