About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist with litigation, pre-litigation disputes, and claims management
- Draft demand letters, settlement agreements, releases, and related correspondence
- Coordinate with and manage outside counsel
- Investigate and help resolve disputes involving customers, contractors, property owners, vendors, and other third parties
- Support regulatory, permitting, compliance, and government affairs matters
- Provide practical legal guidance to business and operational teams
- Conduct legal research and prepare concise guidance memoranda
- Develop policies, forms, and internal procedures
- Review routine commercial agreements and identify legal risks
- Independently manage assigned matters, maintain organized files, track deadlines, and handle related administrative tasks without dedicated legal support staff
- Report to the Vice President and Corporate Counsel
- Support broadband expansion throughout the Midwest
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active Illinois law license in good standing
- Eligible to practice law in Illinois without restriction
- Approximately 3-5 years of legal experience preferred
- Litigation, dispute resolution, or claims management experience strongly preferred
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to manage legal matters with minimal supervision and without reliance on a legal assistant
- Experience with telecommunications, construction, real estate, regulatory, municipal, or utility matters is a plus
- Business-minded and solutions-oriented
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Comfortable handling disputes and litigation-related matters
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Must submit a resume and brief summary of relevant experience
