About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct initial screening of psychiatric and medical needs for incoming psychiatric and chemical dependency admission referrals
- Perform virtual assessments through phone triage and patient assessments
- Triage patients in acute crisis and determine the correct level of care
- Conduct mental status assessments when involuntary hold evaluation is required
- Determine patient placement at the appropriate level of care
- Provide illness advice and self-care interventions
- Identify resources, consult, and refer patients
- Use the nursing process, physician input, and approved telephone nursing guidelines and protocols
- Maintain efficient operations and provide quality care to ensure positive patient outcomes
- Work evening/night shifts with 12-hour shifts, variable days, and rotating weekends
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be a resident of Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, or South Carolina
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- California Registered Nurse license must be acquired prior to starting
- Registered Nurse license in state of residence
- 1 year of mental health experience
- 2 years of practical nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, urgent care, or emergency room/department
- Professional knowledge of clinical nursing protocols, regulations, institutional standards of care, risk management, disease processes, emergencies, health sciences, and pharmacology
- Advanced clinical knowledge of medical diagnoses, procedures, protocols, treatments, terminology, and state and federal regulations and guidelines
- Solid analytical and project management skills
- Communication, interpersonal, and interviewing skills
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical/health records
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects simultaneously
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to unsafe or emergency situations
- Ability to ensure patient privacy and protect PHI
- Ability to analyze problems and implement effective solutions
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers, physicians, nurses, administrators, and the public
