Collect blood specimens
Receive, handle, and process specimens for laboratory testing
Interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors
Receive, sort, and accession specimens, assigning them to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflows
Complete computerized patient registration and/or test order entry tasks
Complete computerized specimen collection, receiving, and processing tasks
Perform basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports and storing or retrieving specimens
Document work and complete quality-related tasks
Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area
Monitor pending work and escalate priority work
Operate and use basic pre-analytic laboratory equipment
Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering patient care

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) provided prior to start date
CA Licensed Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
Knowledge and practice of ordering Laboratory testing
Knowledge and practice of collecting blood specimens
Knowledge and practice of compassionately and effectively interacting with patients
Knowledge and practice of handling and processing biological specimens
Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks within expected timeframes
Ability to interact effectively with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors
Ability to respond appropriately to volume fluctuations, unexpected situations, equipment or IS failures, shift hand-offs, STAT test orders, specimen integrity issues, and pending logs
Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence
Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures ensuring patient privacy and safety
Critical thinking and decision-making skills
Ability to recognize and escalate complex or unusual deviations, problems, occurrences, and outcomes
