About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collect blood specimens for Laboratory testing
- Receive, handle, sort, accession, and process specimens
- Assign specimens to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflows
- Complete computerized patient registration and/or test order entry tasks
- Complete computerized specimen collection, receiving, and processing tasks
- Perform post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports and storing or retrieving specimens
- Document work and maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area
- Monitor pending work and escalate priority work
- Operate and use basic pre-analytic laboratory equipment
- Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
- Protect patient privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care
- Interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) provided prior to start date
- CA Licensed Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II
- Knowledge and practice of ordering Laboratory testing
- Knowledge and practice of collecting blood specimens
- Knowledge and practice of interacting compassionately and effectively with patients
- Knowledge and practice of handling and processing biological specimens
- Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
- Ability to organize and prioritize duties within expected timeframes
- Ability to respond appropriately to volume fluctuations, unexpected situations, equipment or IS failure, shift hand-offs, STAT test orders, and specimen integrity issues
- Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures
- Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
- Solid critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Ability to recognize and escalate complex and unusual deviations, problems, occurrences, and outcomes
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate current, factual, and relevant work information
