About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess, coordinate, and evaluate the spiritual needs of patients and families
  • Provide direct spiritual care in coordination with the patient care team
  • Develop, document, and deliver spiritual care plans
  • Establish and periodically revise plans of care through comprehensive spiritual assessments
  • Incorporate developmental-stage and age-specific patient/family needs into assessment and treatment planning
  • Communicate care-plan changes to interdisciplinary teams and community resources
  • Provide spiritual counseling and apply spiritual-care techniques to improve coping effectiveness
  • Assist with funerals, memorial services, and sacramental needs
  • Educate patients and families about community resources and link them to services
  • Act as a resource to staff regarding spiritual needs and concerns
  • Mentor chaplain students and new chaplains
  • Complete accurate patient and departmental documentation and review charts
  • Protect patient protected health information and comply with privacy requirements
  • Provide worship services, memorials, and staff support groups as requested
  • Complete mandated continuing education and maintain certification requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree in Divinity OR graduate-level theological degree from a CHEA-accredited organization OR equivalent granted by the Association of Professional Chaplains
  • 4 units of ACPE training
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience
  • NCC board certification through APC, NACC, NAJC, or CASC within three years if hired after 01/01/2025
  • Knowledge of death, dying, grief, and bereavement processes
  • Knowledge of diverse religious practices and community resources
  • Written and verbal interpersonal skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an interrupted environment
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems using established options
  • Ability to ensure patient protected health information privacy
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and healthcare providers
