About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution
- Prepare, compound, package, label, and dispense medications, nutritional products, and non-hazardous IV admixtures and solutions
- Maintain standards, procedures, cleaning protocols, infection controls, clean rooms, and laminar flow hoods
- Assist with medication and supplies inventory management and control
- Maintain adequate stock levels, check pricing accuracy, and complete regulatory documentation
- Provide pharmaceutical support to patients’ plans of care based on diagnosis
- Follow local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
- Perform department-specific tasks and orient other staff
- Serve as primary trainer and competency administrator for new inpatient pharmacy technician staff
- Conduct patient medication history interviews and document them in the electronic medical record
- Research and resolve controlled substance discrepancies with nursing, anesthesia, and other clinical users
- Report to various locations within the designated service area as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program OR meeting Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration
- One year of recent relevant experience
- Registered Pharmacy Technician, Certified Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician certification/licensure
- Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations, and laws and regulations
- Knowledge of pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing, and medication record keeping
- Basic working knowledge of NABP, TJC, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP legal requirements and accreditation standards
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Microsoft Office Suite, pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC knowledge
- Basic math skills for dosage determination
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an interruption-prone environment
- Ability to ensure patient PHI privacy
- Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with healthcare providers
- Ability to perform basic pharmacy buyer duties
- Ability to work every other weekend and variable days/shifts
