About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare, compound, package, label, and dispense medications, nutritional products, and non-hazardous IV admixtures and solutions
  • Maintain safe and sterile medication areas, clean rooms, and laminar flow hoods through cleaning and infection-control protocols
  • Assist with medication and supplies inventory management, stock levels, pricing accuracy, and regulatory documentation
  • Provide pharmaceutical support to patients’ plans of care based on diagnosis
  • Follow local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
  • Train and orient staff on inpatient pharmacy technician tasks and administer competencies for new staff
  • Conduct patient medication history interviews and document them in the electronic medical record
  • Research and resolve controlled-substance discrepancies with nursing, anesthesia, and other clinical users
  • Work at various locations within the designated service area as assigned
  • Identify and resolve standard problems and build collaborative relationships with healthcare providers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program OR meeting Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration
  • One year recent relevant experience
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician, Certified Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician credential/licensure
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations, and laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including NABP, TJC, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC
  • Basic dosage calculations and math skills
  • Ability to protect patient PHI privacy
  • Ability to perform basic pharmacy buyer duties
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple tasks and interruptions
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including one weekend shift per month
  • Employees may handle hazardous drugs in accordance with USP 800 and NIOSH guidelines
