About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare, compound, package, label, and dispense medications, nutritional products, and non-hazardous IV admixtures and solutions
  • Follow medication-area, clean-room, laminar-flow-hood cleaning and infection-control protocols
  • Manage and control medicine and supplies inventory, including stock levels, pricing accuracy, and regulatory documentation
  • Provide pharmaceutical support to patients’ plans of care based on diagnosis
  • Follow local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
  • Perform other specific departmental tasks and orient staff as needed
  • Serve as primary trainer and competency administrator for new inpatient pharmacy technician staff
  • Conduct patient medication history interviews and document them in the electronic medical record
  • Independently research and resolve controlled-substance discrepancies with nursing, anesthesia, and other clinical users

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program OR met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration
  • Current applicable pharmacy technician certification/licensure: Registered Pharmacy Technician, Certified Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician
  • 1 year recent relevant experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations, and laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of different pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing, and medication record keeping
  • Basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards, including NABP, TJC, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP
  • Written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally
  • Time management and organizational skills, including prioritization and meeting deadlines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC
  • Basic math and dosage calculation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an interrupted environment
  • Ability to ensure patient PHI privacy
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and healthcare providers
  • Ability to perform basic pharmacy buyer duties
  • Travel required between sites
  • Ability to work variable days, day/evening shifts, and every other weekend
