About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work as part of the Insurance Finance team and collaborate with departments across Sutter Health
- Implement system-wide commercial property and casualty insurance lines
- Build and oversee insurance programs covering assigned lines, including property, automobile, pollution legal liability, cyber/privacy, managed care liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, excess workers’ compensation, fiduciary, crime, aviation, and medical professional liability
- Prepare renewal specifications and evaluate quotes
- Review policy language
- Budget and evaluate adequate limits and retentions
- Coordinate and support claims
- Participate in underwriter meetings
- Ensure insurance policies are renewed timely and effectively
- Identify risk and develop proactive risk management programs
- Recommend ways to mitigate risk or loss throughout the organization
- Review and negotiate contract language related to insurance and indemnification
- Maintain confidentiality of patient PHI and insurance and risk management data
Requirements
What you’ll need- Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
- 5 years recent relevant experience
- Advanced knowledge of commercial property & casualty insurance, data analysis, developing data models and reporting
- Working knowledge of contract provisions related to indemnification clauses and insurance contracts
- Solid understanding of financial planning, analysis and budgeting process
- General understanding of healthcare business processes, organization, and workflows
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including prioritization, multitasking, and completing deliverables
- Attention to detail, time management, organization, clear documentation, diagnostic capabilities, and problem-solving skills
- Expert analytical and project management skills, including data analysis, practical conclusions, corrective actions, conflict resolution, and effective changes
- Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to obtain relevant information and investigate sensitive facts
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
- Detailed knowledge of insurance concepts, policies, requirements, and best practices
- Ability to identify concepts, factors, and risks from conversations and surveys and document them in narrative or graphic reports
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems, generate actionable recommendations, and make informed decisions from multiple information sources
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and protect patient PHI and insurance/risk management data
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with team members, peers, departments, stakeholders, external agencies, and vendors
