About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform therapeutic, diagnostic, and emergency respiratory care procedures
  • Assess, treat, care for, and evaluate patients with respiratory insufficiencies or abnormalities
  • Implement the patient's plan of care based on diagnosis and physician orders
  • Exercise sound judgment and developed clinical skills in patient care
  • Gain confidence and cooperation from patients, families/support groups, and healthcare providers
  • Monitor patients attentively and provide competent care
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
  • Protect patient privacy and safety while delivering optimal care
  • Perform specific procedures as assigned
  • Orient other staff to the department as needed
  • Work variable days, including every other weekend, on 12-hour shifts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of a two-year respiratory care program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), which may be evidenced by an RCP/RRT/CRT license
  • RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner) certification/licensure
  • RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) certification/licensure
  • BLS (Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider) certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider) if required at the entity
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) if required by entity
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if required by entity
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience
  • Knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, procedures, views, and equipment
  • Experience responding to traumas and various hospital emergencies
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based data and instructions
  • Ability to perform routine or emergency respiratory care
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines within standardized procedures and scientific methods
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), EHR, and EPIC
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems
  • Ability to ensure patient PHI privacy
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and healthcare providers
  • Ability to function effectively in emergency situations
