About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare data analysis for annual Own The Podium reports and plans
- Identify targeted athletes for upcoming Olympic cycles
- Produce athlete projection graphs using current results and podium predictions
- Develop and manage athlete gap-analysis reporting workflows
- Develop and maintain Podium Pathway and talent-identification tools
- Review On Track and NDPT times and establish national club rankings and All-Star Athlete reports
- Develop and validate year-over-year improvement models and Olympic Games time predictions
- Communicate with National Coaches and produce required reports
- Prepare statistical competition analyses, relay combinations, benchmarks, and post-event performance reports
- Maintain complete, clean results and rankings databases
- Develop and maintain video race analysis databases and reporting mechanisms
- Create and manage folders and resource hubs
- Deliver biomechanics and performance-analysis support at development camps and National Junior Team competitions
- Lead video race analysis at selected international benchmark competitions
- Coordinate delivery with Swimming Canada IST staff across Senior and NextGen programs
- Provide remote biomechanical analysis and technical recommendations to NextGen swimmers and coaches
- Use objective data to inform performance decisions and enhance knowledge
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate degree in sport science, kinesiology or related field with a focus on biomechanics
- Practical experience and expertise in sports statistics and data management
- Practical experience in swimming as a biomechanist or data analyst
- Strong organization, planning, analytical, interpersonal, verbal and writing skills
- Advanced computer skills, including web scraping and data visualization tools considered an asset
- Expert knowledge of Excel required
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks with specific deadlines
- Familiarity with structured datasets, REST API sources, web scraping, or similar
- Ability to answer business questions through statistical analysis and present results through visualizations, tables, and reports
- Experience with Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis
- Additional programming language experience considered an asset
- Research experience, machine learning, collaborative problem-solving, data warehousing, and project management considered assets
- Strong written and verbal English required; French communication considered an asset
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally occasionally
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and/or overtime as needed
