About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare data analyses for Swimming Canada’s annual Own the Podium report
- Produce the list of targeted athletes for the next two Olympic cycles
- Produce projection charts for targeted and carded athletes
- Develop and manage the gap analysis reporting process, from Microsoft Forms to Python scripts and PDF reports
- Prepare the documents required for the Own the Podium plan
- Develop and maintain the Podium Pathway and talent identification tools
- Review Next Generation (NextGen) and National Development Performance Times (NDPT) and establish the annual national club rankings
- Support the development of qualification standards for team initiatives
- Develop and validate improvement-rate models and podium-time forecasts
- Communicate with national coaches and produce reports
- Prepare and coordinate statistical analysis for junior and senior championships
- Develop relay team combinations and provide real-time updates during competitions
- Produce performance reports following major championships
- Maintain the results and rankings database
- Develop a race video analysis database and reporting process
- Produce performance benchmarks and manage records and resource centres
- Provide specialized biomechanics and performance analysis support at NextGen camps and competitions
- Lead race video analysis at selected international junior competitions
- Align service delivery with the Integrated Support Team (IST) staff across the senior and NextGen programs
- Provide remote technical analysis and recommendations to NextGen swimmers and coaches
- Use objective data to inform performance-related decisions
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate degree in sport science, kinesiology, or a related field, with a specialization in biomechanics
- Practical experience and expertise in sports statistics and data management
- Practical swimming experience as a biomechanist, data analyst, or coach
- Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills, particularly in web data extraction
- Knowledge of and experience with data visualization tools is an asset
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Knowledge and experience researching, collecting, and cleaning data from structured datasets, REST APIs, web scraping, or other similar sources
- Ability to answer business questions using statistical analyses and present findings through visualizations, tables, and reports in plain language
- Experience with Python, R, or other similar languages for data analysis
- Additional experience with other programming languages is an asset
- Experience in research, machine learning, collaborative problem-solving, data warehousing, and project management is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills required
- Ability to communicate orally in French is an asset
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to attend NextGen camps and competitions
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks with defined deadlines
- Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules or work overtime as required
