Key responsibilities & impact

Build and optimize high-performance workflows for complex mathematical and statistical calculations over datasets of hundreds of thousands of records
Own performance across Postgres query plans and indexing, batching and parallelism, memory behavior, Redis caching, and algorithm optimization
Ensure performance improvements preserve correctness
Design and operate dependable message, queueing, workflow orchestration, job scheduling, retry, idempotency, and backpressure systems
Design for partial failure in long-running multi-stage pipelines
Build observability for diagnosing slow or incorrect runs, including timing, lineage, and intermediate state
Build agentic tooling for data validation and remediation, analysis setup, exception triage, report generation, and other Essentials workflows
Design agent harnesses with evaluation sets, verification steps, constrained tool surfaces, and human review points
Provide agents with current documentation, schemas, conventions, and project state
Improve agentic development practices and share them with the team
Set standards for testing, performance, and agentic practice with engineering leadership
Improve integration and end-to-end test coverage
Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, and code review
Drive performance, scalability, reliability, and agent adoption for Syndio's pay equity product, Essentials

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of professional hands-on experience
Deep experience in complex, distributed, service-based systems
Proven performance and scale work
Experience with large-dataset computation, numerical or statistical workloads, or heavy data pipelines
Experience with message systems, queues, or workflow orchestration tooling
Strong proficiency in several of Python, Go, Node/JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Postgres, and NoSQL stores such as Firebase
Familiarity with caching layers such as Redis
Strong end-to-end and integration testing of service-based architectures
Hands-on experience with an e2e framework such as Playwright or Cypress
Daily use of coding agents and experience building reliable agentic development harnesses
Strong CI/CD gates and spec-to-code workflows
High autonomy in driving ambiguous, high-stakes problems to shipped results
Ability to collaborate across teams and translate technical constraints into business language
Ability to establish and follow engineering best practices
Must be based in Calgary
Must be legally authorized to work in Alberta without additional visa support now or in the future
