About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Collaborate with the team on R&D projects throughout their lifecycle, from initial proposal to final wrap-up
Evaluate how R&D projects can leverage AI/ML models and products, with a goal of integrating them into partner DoD systems
Work with vendors through CRADAs to provide constructive feedback on products and solutions
Help improve vendor solutions’ accuracy, safety, and ability to meet Branch requirements
Work with external research partners in academia and industry to guide research projects toward project goals
Collaborate with research partners to build solutions that provide meaningful value to the Branch
Communicate clearly with internal and external development teams using Teams, source control, ticketing, and code review tools
Perform Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V)
Create reports on model and technique effectiveness

Requirements

What you’ll need

Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Secret Clearance (REQUIRED)
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to AI and ML (Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, et al)
3-5+ years of directly related experience
Proficiency in Python with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn, Rust, or Go
Ability to read and understand code written by others and adapt to different styles and architectures
Proficiency in Git for version control
Experience developing or applying classical machine learning models, including computer vision and object classification
Experience with Large Language Models, including understanding internal structure and functionality, prompt engineering, debugging, and validation
Experience with reinforcement learning techniques
Experience with Agentic AI using reprompting and classical agents
Experience with diffusion models for image and other modalities
Experience with neuro-symbolic solutions connecting classical or generative models to verifiable logic
Experience with adversarial AI/AI security, including model poisoning, prompt injection, and MCP exploits
Experience with Explainable AI (XAI)
Experience deploying models and applications in containerized environments using Kubernetes or Docker
Strong proficiency in the mathematical foundations of AI/ML
Ability to work with air-gapped, secure networks and run models on them
Knowledge and experience scaling down models for austere, low-resource platforms
TS/SCI clearance is desired
Experience with real-world deployments is a plus
