About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct all aspects of tax for Tanger
  • Prepare and/or review income, sales, use, personal property, and miscellaneous tax returns
  • Manage income, asset, ownership, and distribution tests required for continued REIT qualification
  • Partner with the VP, Tax on compliance with international, federal, state, and local jurisdictions
  • Calculate annual taxability of company dividends
  • Oversee international, federal, and state income tax returns and estimated tax payments for the parent REIT, operating partnership, affiliates, and taxable REIT subsidiaries
  • Advise unitholders on federal and state estimates of quarterly taxable income and coordinate tax communications
  • Oversee sales tax returns, audit notices, voluntary disclosure agreements, and related state-by-state analysis
  • Review personal property tax listings and business license renewals
  • Maintain tax return due-date lists and oversee responses to taxing-authority notices
  • Review quarterly REIT income, asset, and distribution tests and participate in REIT calls with outside experts
  • Conduct tax research on REIT qualification, federal/state/local law changes, partnership issues, and foreign reporting and accounting matters
  • Evaluate tax effects of sales, purchases, and joint venture arrangements and assist with due diligence
  • Implement new tax laws, IRS guidelines, regulations, elections, and method changes
  • Manage ASC 740/FIN48 reporting and monitoring for domestic and Canadian activity
  • Analyze revaluation triggers and oversee related work
  • Prepare or review quarterly and annual tax provisions, ASC 740 analyses, uncertain tax positions, deferred tax calculations, and SEC reporting disclosures
  • Record and monitor tax-basis financial statements for joint ventures
  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax workpapers for joint venture returns and oversee outside preparers
  • Interpret operating agreements and create income allocation models for new or potential joint ventures
  • Maintain joint venture partner records, calculate taxable-income estimates, answer partner questions, and maintain compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Masters of Science with a concentration in Taxation or Juris Doctorate with Tax LL.M required
  • Must possess at least 7 years of experience working in the area of taxation at an accounting firm, law firm, or REIT
  • Must possess an active standing CPA license if MS in Tax
  • 1-3 years of experience in a corporate accounting department or public accounting preferred
  • Advanced understanding of accounting standards and procedures, including tax law, regulations, and GAAP
  • Knowledge of taxation under federal, state, and international laws
  • Ability to research, problem solve, and make decisions based on laws, policies, and best practices
  • Ability to anticipate and mitigate risks
  • Ability to work independently and in a small team
  • Ability to continue required education necessary to maintain CPA license
