About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide senior legal advice on complex AML/FCRM regulatory matters
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and business leaders on regulatory requirements, emerging risks, and strategic priorities
  • Advise business lines concerning legal matters
  • Coordinate outside counsel
  • Protect the bank's legal interests and maintain operations within the scope established by law
  • Provide legal counsel to executive staff
  • Identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present recommendations, and enhance legal compliance
  • Advise senior executives and business lines on general legal and contract-specific issues and risks
  • Participate in structuring, negotiating, and drafting complex, high-dollar-value business transactions
  • Consult on pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
  • Monitor and direct litigation
  • Advise on legal implications of enterprise issues
  • Hire talent, set goals, develop staff, manage performance and compensation decisions, promote teamwork, and handle disciplinary actions
  • Manage and mentor Staff Attorneys and Paralegal Assistants
  • Assist the General Counsel as directed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's and Juris Doctor degrees from an accredited law school required
  • 15+ years' experience as an attorney
  • Admitted in good standing to a state bar
  • Licensed to practice law
  • Broad transactional background
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills
  • Legal research and writing skills
  • Experience advising senior management on legal, risk, and strategic issues
  • Ability to problem solve, multitask, and work effectively against deadlines
  • Proven success handling high-volume matters in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective reporting and communication to the General Counsel
  • Experience in Banking (Retail and Commercial), Insurance Brokerage, and Broker/Dealer
  • Proven expert knowledge of Regulatory Compliance
  • High personal qualities of integrity, motivation, and carefulness
  • Exceptional judgment
  • Occasional domestic travel
  • Occasional international travel
