About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and lead world-class interdisciplinary research at the Institute for Obesity Research
- Conduct research into molecular, cellular, and systemic mechanisms underlying obesity, metabolic disorders, and related diseases
- Develop research addressing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases among Mexican and Latin American populations
- Establish and sustain academic, clinical, and industry collaborations
- Secure external research funding
- Publish articles in Q1-Q2 journals demonstrating scientific independence and leadership
- Participate as a faculty advisor in the institution’s graduate programs
- Dedicate 25% of time to teaching in an academic school aligned with the field of expertise
- Participate in national and international research networks and events
- Develop an independent research program in cardiovascular immunology and inflammation, clinical and translational research, or computational biology and systems medicine, depending on specialization
- Contribute to translating experimental findings, biomarkers, and therapeutic strategies into biomedical and clinical applications
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong leadership, communication, and networking skills
- Ability to establish and sustain productive academic, clinical, and/or industry collaborations
- Research experience in one or more relevant areas, including Metabolomics, Endocrinology, Nutrition, Metabolism, Immunology, Computational Biology and Systems Medicine, Functional Genomics, and Clinical and Translational Research
- Strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed Q1/Q2 journals, particularly over the past five years
- Demonstrated experience securing competitive research funding from national and/or international sources
- Strong potential to develop an independent and innovative research agenda with scientific, clinical, and/or technological impact
- For clinical and translational research candidates, experience designing and implementing clinical protocols, investigator-initiated studies, and/or industry-sponsored clinical studies is highly desirable
- Experience collaborating with pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies is an asset
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and establish collaborations across basic, computational, translational, and clinical research environments
- Advanced English-language proficiency (CEFR C1 or TOEFL score of 600)
- Spanish proficiency is desirable but not required
- Preference for demonstrated leadership potential and commitment to building collaborative research programs
- For Cardiovascular Immunology & Inflammation: expertise in cardiovascular immunology and inflammation, with relevant experience in tissue-resident immune populations, T-cell biology, immune-mediated myocardial injury, single-cell or spatial approaches, or inflammation resolution and tissue repair
- For Clinical & Translational Research / Industry-Sponsored Clinical Studies: expertise in clinical and translational research; experience designing and executing investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies; knowledge of clinical protocols, GCP, regulatory science, clinical biomarkers, patient phenotyping and stratification, precision medicine, real-world evidence, and therapeutic development
- For Computational Biology and Systems Medicine: expertise in computational biology; ability to integrate experimental, clinical, and multi-omics data; knowledge of systems biology, bioinformatics, single-cell and spatial omics, network biology, biomarker discovery, patient stratification, disease trajectories, and machine learning applied to biomedical data
