About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Monitor networks, systems, and applications for security breaches, vulnerabilities, and suspicious activity
  • Implement and maintain security measures protecting PHI and EHR
  • Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing across clinical and administrative systems
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, HITRUST, and other healthcare regulatory frameworks
  • Develop, update, and enforce security policies, procedures, and incident response plans
  • Investigate security incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate remediation
  • Collaborate with IT, clinical, and compliance teams to secure medical devices and connected health technologies
  • Manage identity and access controls, including role-based access for clinical staff
  • Provide security awareness training, phishing simulations, and best-practice education
  • Monitor emerging threats, ransomware trends, and healthcare-sector attack patterns
  • Support regulatory, auditor, and third-party audits and assessments
  • Evaluate and recommend security tools, technologies, and vendor solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT security roles
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA Security Rule and healthcare compliance requirements
  • Experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and firewalls
  • Understanding of network security, encryption, and secure system architecture
  • Familiarity with medical device security and IoMT risks
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and incident-response skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISM, HCISPP, or GIAC are preferred
  • Experience with cloud security in a healthcare setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with EHR platforms such as Epic or Cerner is preferred
  • Experience conducting HIPAA risk assessments or supporting HITRUST certification is preferred
  • Knowledge of ransomware defense strategies and healthcare-specific threat intelligence is preferred
