About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Answer inbound customer service calls related to patient accounting questions
- Make outbound follow-up calls on outstanding accounts when inbound call volumes are low
- Answer calls promptly without drops or abandons
- Identify callers’ reasons for contact and assist with questions, concerns, or problems
- Focus on first-call resolution
- Facilitate resolution by referring matters to issue/content experts
- Escalate matters to supervisors, request appropriate information, or take appropriate action
- Work in a call center environment with a headset and multiple nearby workstations
- May interact directly with patients in a hospital environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school education or the equivalent
- 1–2 years prior experience in an inbound call center and/or customer service environment
- Hospital patient account billing experience or knowledge of 3rd party reimbursements from insurance companies and government payers is a plus
- Exceptional customer service, problem-solving, and analyzing skills
- Professional and calming tone of voice with complete command of the English language and appropriate grammar
- Ability to facilitate conversations and establish an understanding of the customer's issue/reason for contact
- Ability to work independently, flexibly, and use creative problem-solving techniques
- Ability to de-escalate issues and instill confidence in customers
- Ability to function effectively under stress and handle difficult personalities
- Ability to interpret and apply reimbursement aspects of managed healthcare contracts
- Attentive listening skills
- Ability to clearly articulate responses using appropriate voice modulation
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods
- Required vaccinations and screenings prior to employment, as applicable and permitted by law
