About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and sustain advanced services for a Kubernetes-based PaaS, including Coder workspaces, Kueue batch scheduling, Knative serverless, and Crossplane control planes
- Manage production on-premises and cloud Kubernetes environments, including deployment, upgrades, patching, performance tuning, capacity planning, and backups/disaster recovery
- Perform frequent full security patching across all Kubernetes infrastructure layers while maintaining high uptime
- Own and engineer production AWS and Kubernetes services
- Identify and independently resolve full Kubernetes stack engineering problems
- Ensure real-time telemetry analysis for space launch partners including SpaceX, United Launch Alliance, and Blue Origin
- Provide after-hours Kubernetes infrastructure troubleshooting support during launch events
- Support scientists and engineers running applications in Kubernetes
- Provide Linux expertise and troubleshooting
- Evaluate and test new products and technologies
- Use code to enhance and automate operations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary platform and infrastructure teams, rocket scientists, and engineers to support national space assets
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Computer Science, or another related science/engineering discipline
- 8 or more years of relevant experience developing and delivering complex large-scale distributed software systems solutions and technical products
- Minimum of 5 years supporting highly available enterprise environments, including maintaining system uptime and service availability targets
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience managing Kubernetes environments, including deployment, upgrades, patching, and backups
- Experience owning and engineering production Kubernetes services on-premises and in cloud service providers such as AWS and Azure
- Ability to identify and resolve engineering problems independently
- Experience in Linux systems administration and enterprise configuration
- Strong understanding of networking and storage fundamentals
- Experience automating repetitive tasks with scripting or DevOps tools
- Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph
- U.S. citizenship required to obtain a security clearance
- Senior Engineering Specialist: 12 or more years of relevant experience, 8 years supporting a highly available enterprise environment, and experience architecting/deploying secure cloud and/or Kubernetes environments from scratch and performance tuning/capacity planning them
- Preferred: current and active U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph
- Preferred: CKA, RHCSA, or RHCE certification
- Preferred: Rancher, persistent Kubernetes storage, Linux performance tuning/security hardening, VMware or Harvester, automated provisioning/configuration management/IaC/GitOps, Agile and Scrum experience
