About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish and lead the gas and power categories within the Strategic Sourcing function
  • Develop AES strategy for gas and fuel cell equipment purchasing to support the Renewables & Power business
  • Lead contracting efforts with suppliers
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure safe and timely supply of reliable equipment and services at optimal cost and quality
  • Manage and lead gas-generation contracting efforts across AES’ Renewables & Power businesses
  • Develop and negotiate strategic supply agreements and lead a team to ensure safe and timely equipment supply
  • Establish strategic relationships with equipment vendors and develop purchasing strategies covering preferred vendors, pricing, terms, and conditions
  • Establish and maintain sourcing and procurement processes for new generation projects, major maintenance projects, and technology improvements
  • Monitor technology trends, energy market forces, cost trends, and supplier technology road maps
  • Partner with Engineering, Construction, and Development teams to implement unified delivery strategies
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for policy conformance and remediate supplier defects and delivery problems
  • Define sourcing strategies, including alternate supply sources, requirement consolidation, alternative solutions or technologies, cost avoidance, and standardization
  • Foster collaborative partnerships internally and externally to achieve Strategic Sourcing and AES goals
  • Report to the Vice President of Strategic Sourcing

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Procurement/Sourcing, Legal, Business, Administration, Engineering, or another technical field from an accredited entity
  • Minimum 10 years of gas and power-related experience
  • 5+ years managing a team
  • Strong negotiation skills with contract negotiation experience
  • Financial knowledge for cash-flow evaluation of a project, including cost of capital, IRR, and NPV
  • Demonstrated success developing consensus from diverse opinions in a highly fluid and sometimes ambiguous multicultural environment
  • Well-developed supplier network and ability to build and leverage strategic partnerships
  • Knowledge and experience sourcing/procuring power plant/utility equipment, services, and construction
  • Experience developing Total Cost of Ownership and other business models
  • Proficient with MS Office suite, Quickbase, and other software systems
  • Experience in supplier qualification and supplier development
  • Limited travel required, approximately 30%
  • Work authorization verified through the I-9 process
