About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage third parties in the design and engineering of large utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects in late-stage development, construction, and operation
- Serve as lead project engineer for assigned projects
- Manage engineers, engineering consultants, and EPC contractors
- Conduct design reviews, technical due diligence, and value engineering
- Develop and negotiate contract documents and prepare procurement specifications
- Prepare contract exhibits and support RFIs during EPC contract negotiations
- Lead internal and external design review meetings
- Coordinate stakeholder and subject matter expert feedback
- Manage Procore RFIs and submittals
- Provide technical support during construction, including QA/QC, test-report review, punch-list resolution, and commissioning
- Support Owner’s Engineering during financing activities
- Resolve technical issues with Operations and Asset Management teams
- Assist Development and Project Management teams with financial inputs
- Develop technical solutions for market-specific requirements
- Drive process improvements, document lessons learned, and provide EPC/external engineer performance feedback
- Mentor and train engineers on job requirements, technology trends, best practices, code enforcement, and safety
- Evaluate emerging technologies and companies for the Approved Vendor List
- Attend site safety walks and identify jobsite hazards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or civil preferred) or equivalent technical field
- 10+ years professional experience in energy system design, project or land development, and/or construction
- 5+ years of experience in project management, consulting, or as a project engineer
- Electrical design experience of the generator side of utility-scale PV and BESS projects, or stormwater and grading expertise with thorough understanding of permitting processes and timelines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally across a large organization
- Ability to work effectively in a remote and/or distributed team environment
- Ability to manage third-party consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Direct project experience with Procore
- Graduate degree in engineering (plus qualification)
- EIT or PE qualifications (plus qualification)
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification (plus qualification)
- Knowledge of BESS Fire Safety Codes and Standards (plus qualification)
- Experience with ETAP, SKM, PVsyst, AutoCAD Civil3D, substation/high-voltage design, structural/SCADA/commissioning engineering design (plus qualifications)
- Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese (plus qualification)
- Obtain and maintain NFPA 70E, OSHA 10-hour, and CPR/first aid safety training certifications
