About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform full technical due diligence and risk assessment for M&A projects
  • Evaluate project designs to identify red flags and fatal flaws
  • Redesign and update layouts, energy production estimates, EPC cost estimates, and equipment selections
  • Coordinate RFP response documentation with M&A developers
  • Design select projects up to 30% across electrical, civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines
  • Develop scopes of work and technical contract exhibits
  • Seek and evaluate proposals for engineering services
  • Manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors in developing construction drawings and support materials
  • Perform technical project due diligence and engineering design reviews
  • Coordinate design-review feedback from internal stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Value engineer PV and BESS designs to maximize reliability and reduce project cost
  • Establish and review technical specifications for owner-furnished equipment with Procurement and Sourcing
  • Respond to contractor requests for information during construction
  • Perform field QA/QC checks
  • Develop punch lists
  • Support commissioning activities and review commissioning reports
  • Analyze system performance
  • Support the Owner’s Engineering team during financing activities
  • Support Operations and Asset Management teams in resolving technical issues at operating sites
  • Assist Development and Project Management teams with budgets and key financial inputs
  • Develop technical solutions for region- and market-specific requirements
  • Contribute to process improvement and engineering information-sharing initiatives
  • Manage third-party engineering consultant relationships
  • Mentor and train engineers on technology trends, best practices, and safety
  • Contribute to AES Clean Energy growth planning, process-improvement task forces, and strategic planning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in solar PV system design, development, construction, and analysis preferred
  • Proficiency in PV system design, including 1-line and 3-line diagram conventions, NEC design requirements, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnecting means requirements, equipment selection, grounding methodologies, and short circuit current analysis
  • Experience with medium voltage collector system design
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Graduate degree in Engineering is a plus
  • PE license is a plus
  • PMP Certification is a plus
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification is a plus
  • 2-5 years of experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems design and modeling is a plus
  • Experience with MATLAB, ETAP, SKM, and other advanced modeling tools is a plus
  • Substation/HV design experience is a plus
  • NFPA 70E, OSHA 10-hr or comparable job-site safety certification is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel
  • Work authorization verification through Form I-9, E-Verify, SSA, and DHS
