About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to systems engineering activities for BESS products from requirements definition through deployment and operation.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements, interface control documents, specifications, compliance matrices, and integration documentation.
  • Support integration of energy storage, power conversion systems, safety systems, controls, communications, and balance-of-system components.
  • Review electrical and controls designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and technical submittals; document findings and coordinate resolution.
  • Apply BESS codes, standards, and project requirements with senior-engineer guidance.
  • Support prototype builds, design verification, certification testing, manufacturing transition, and system-level validation.
  • Analyze test and field data, document results, and recommend engineering actions.
  • Contribute to lessons learned, standards work, root-cause analyses, design tools, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform vendor evaluations for BESS balance-of-system component suppliers.
  • Provide engineering support for integrating BESS products into utility-scale projects.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, communications, and system-level issues.
  • Participate in root-cause analyses and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with project engineering, commissioning, operations, quality, manufacturing, suppliers, integrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Support permitting and local-jurisdiction discussions.
  • Identify integration risks, track actions, and communicate technical status, decisions, and open items.
  • Develop technical guidance, work instructions, presentations, and training materials.
  • Travel to factories, laboratories, and project sites for inspections, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical reviews.
  • Complete defined engineering assignments and own deliverables from planning through closure.
  • Communicate risks and recommendations, share knowledge, and contribute to team procedures and continuous improvement.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience in BESS, renewable energy, power systems, controls, product development, systems integration, or complex electromechanical equipment.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical systems, controls, communications, power electronics, and system interfaces.
  • Ability to read and review schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, technical drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Experience supporting engineering analysis, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of structured problem solving, requirements management, verification, and configuration control.
  • Ability to organize technical work, manage assigned deliverables, and communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Willingness to travel to factories and project sites, approximately 25%.
  • Preferred: Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage, solar, or other renewable energy projects.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with BESS and electrical safety standards, including UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 72, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 110, NFPA 111, IFC, IEC standards, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with battery, electrical, controls, networking, or data-acquisition test equipment.
  • Preferred: Experience working with equipment manufacturers, system integrators, engineering firms, laboratories, construction teams, or operations personnel.
  • Preferred: Experience using engineering requirements, issue-tracking, document-control, or configuration-management tools.
  • Preferred: 2D / 3D CAD program experience.
