About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work on projects with a specific vertical in collaboration with the Sports Business desk
  • Conduct interviews with subject-matter experts and newsmakers
  • Create first-person explainer videos on sports-business topics
  • Help curate and create the weekly MoneyCall Sports Business newsletter
  • Work on projects involving the video team and data team
  • Participate in selective day-to-day reporting and writing opportunities as news arises
  • Receive hands-on editing from the hiring manager and others
  • Conduct daily industry research to spot potential stories and develop story-pitching and honing skills
  • Attend 1:1 meetings with reporters and editors focused on Sports Business reporting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate students, ideally in their junior or senior year; all undergraduates and postgraduates encouraged to apply
  • Ability to work a 30 to 40 hour work week
  • Previous newsroom internship experience is a plus
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced work environments where needs and priorities can change quickly
  • Deep knowledge of and passion for sports
  • Demonstrated experience creating video is a plus
  • Remote internship requires some travel to New York City; candidates based in New York City may work on-site in the New York office
  • Submit a resume
  • Submit a 500–700 word essay explaining why you should be considered, including main area of interest such as reporting
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation
  • Submit a portfolio of at least 5 relevant samples showcasing strong reporting skills
