About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide outreach to the Somali community about mental health and current community issues
- Facilitate educational forums and groups addressing acculturation and cultural diversity
- Link individuals and families to appropriate services and community resources
- Provide support and education to partner schools, including youth groups, lunch bunch groups, peer groups, academic assistance, and classroom assistance
- Conduct youth groups and individual sessions with identified clients
- Provide direct service, coordination, and resource linkage for Buckeye Ranch clients and families
- Complete programming referrals and assist families with regular diagnostic assessments
- Participate in treatment teams, departmental committees, large group supervision, and Ranch/external working groups
- Maintain regular contact with individuals, families, and treatment providers
- Schedule appointments around family availability; evening work is expected
- Support refugee clients and families during resettlement and evaluate support systems
- Help clients and families cope with cultural adjustment, assimilation, and mental health needs
- Organize recreational activities for summer and school breaks
- Intervene as clients and families navigate agencies and systems
- Serve as primary communication point for families and internal/external clients
- Coordinate workshops, presentations, and recurring prevention activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a human service-related field
- Active driver’s license and proof of car insurance
- Fluent in Somali and/or Arabic, as well as English
- Preferably two years of previous experience as a Mental Health Specialist, Behavior Aide, Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker
- QMHS required
- Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor or license eligibility preferred
- Satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, references, FBI/BCI background check, ARCS registries check, and SACWIS database checks
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future
