About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prospect for new foundation and corporate funders aligned with Ocean Science Trust’s programs
- Build and maintain a grant pipeline, qualifying prospects and tracking deadlines and likelihood
- Mentor OST program leads on funder practices, grant cycles, and fundable proposals
- Build peer relationships with aligned public-foundation program officers
- Partner with program staff to identify fundable projects and match them to prospects
- Manage the complete institutional grant process from identification and proposal development through submission, fulfillment, reporting, and renewals
- Forecast grant revenue and update leadership and finance staff
- Develop proposal and award budgets with the finance team and track spending against restricted awards
- Manage a portfolio of institutional funders and maintain grant-related documents and data in Bloomerang and shared systems
- Coordinate award receipts and grant-management compliance with finance
- Serve as a contact for active and prospective institutional funders and steward funder relationships
- Research corporate prospects and develop tiered sponsorship packages
- Secure corporate sponsorships and corporate foundation grants for programs, the SeaChange Scholar Fund, convenings, and events
- Manage sponsorship fulfillment, benefits delivery, recognition, and reporting
- Review corporate partnerships against OST’s gift acceptance policy
- Collaborate with leadership, program leads, the Director of Philanthropy, partners, and finance
- Support fundraising priorities and develop the annual institutional giving budget
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4-5 years experience prospecting and identifying potential sources of new corporate and foundation support
- 4-5 years experience forecasting grant revenue and managing a pipeline with realistic likelihood and timing estimates
- 4-5 years experience building proposals and award budgets in partnership with finance staff
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the role of science and science funding in government
- Understanding of how OST’s independence shapes what it does and does not pursue
- Track record of success in seeking, obtaining, and renewing multi-year five- and six-figure grants
- Demonstrated experience managing the full grant cycle for multiple institutional grantors
- Outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including collaborating on proposal development
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of funder prospecting practices, grantmaking and reporting cycles, proposal writing, and administration
- Understanding of detailed and multi-programmatic budgeting
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Comfort working at the intersection of science and policy and translating technical work into compelling funder language
- Commitment to OST’s mission
- Experience with Slack, Google Workspace, Bloomerang, Kindsight, Candid, and Monday, or comparable tools, preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be a current resident of California or willing to relocate if hired

- Science funding and/or marine STEM education funding experience is a plus
- Refined political acumen and understanding of policy processes is a plus
