About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop and maintain backend systems underpinning the eCommerce platform
Design and build robust, scalable backend systems and services
Develop and maintain APIs and backend architecture
Architect infrastructure for job processing, analytics and event tracking
Build internal tools for authentication, rate limiting and quota management
Work with data pipelines and background processing systems
Optimize system performance, security and scalability
Own the full engineering lifecycle, including code quality, testing, infrastructure and monitoring
Collaborate with product, design and customer experience teams to deliver new features
Identify opportunities to improve development processes, tooling and technical architecture

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least 4 years' experience building and maintaining production-grade backend systems
Strong programming skills and ability to write clean, maintainable and well-structured code
Experience designing databases, APIs and backend infrastructure
Understanding of high-throughput systems and background job queues
Strong sense of ownership of code, infrastructure, testing and monitoring
Confidence making sound technical decisions in a fast-moving, early-stage environment
Genuine interest in developer experience and building tools and systems for engineers
Experience with Python and TypeScript
Experience with AWS (ECS, SQS, Parameter Store)
Experience with Docker
Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis
Experience with GitHub Actions
Experience with LogFire and Sentry
Desirable: rate limiting, authentication systems, quota management, analytics, attribution engineering, event tracking, dbt, Snowflake, WYSIWYG editors, PDF generation/rendering, image manipulation, Next.js or Remix
