About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Dispense prescription and non-prescription medications according to State, County, and Agency guidelines
  • Collaborate with the program psychiatrist during weekly meetings to review medications, side effects, and effectiveness
  • Coordinate telephone or virtual Zoom meetings with the psychiatrist to process new orders
  • Work with pharmacies to procure medications
  • Help families obtain medical assessments prior to placement
  • Assist families with transferring medical insurance coverage to Los Angeles County when necessary
  • Ensure mandated documentation is current for medication administration
  • Dispense medications and perform daily quality assurance
  • Treat student injuries and illnesses and ensure appropriate documentation
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment
  • Follow Agency emergency procedures
  • Respond to staff and parent inquiries regarding nursing services
  • Punch in/out, including lunch, according to prescribed employment hours
  • Maintain a neat and organized work area

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in good standing
  • Certification and experience administering injectable medications
  • Experience in dispensing medications and performing general nursing duties
  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with adolescents and young adults with developmental, behavioral, and mental health needs
  • Accuracy, expedience, communication, and behavior management skills to work with students, parents, and multidisciplinary staff
  • Commitment to compassionate, person-centered care that promotes health, safety, and well-being
