About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze the cost, life-cycle GHG emissions, and availability of low-GHG renewable fuels, such as renewable hydrogen derivatives and biofuels
  • Write clear and concise technical reports, policy briefs, and articles, including informative but easy-to-understand figures, for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Present findings in public and private forums
  • Help organize outreach activities such as briefings, meetings, and workshops
  • Collaborate with the global Fuels team, colleagues in India, external partners, policymakers, and industry stakeholders
  • Conduct robust research and analyses and develop policy recommendations
  • Communicate actionable findings to policymakers, industry, and other stakeholders
  • Focus on Indian policies and programs, including the National Green Hydrogen Mission and Aviation Turbine Fuel Order, with potential work on fuels policies in other countries in Asia and elsewhere
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Report to the Fuels Program Lead and work regularly with the India Regional Lead

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate Researcher: A bachelor’s or master's degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, ecology, engineering, environmental policy or related discipline, in addition to at least two years of related experience, or alternatively a PhD degree
  • Researcher: A master’s or PhD degree in engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, energy and resources, or another relevant subject, in addition to at least three years of related experience
  • Excellent and demonstrated quantitative, analytical, and research skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, being highly organized and strategic in problem-solving
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Reading and writing proficiency in a second language strongly preferred
  • Superior proficiency with MS Office including Excel required
  • Programming experience with Python or R preferred
  • Experience with life-cycle assessment and/or techno-economic analyses preferred
  • Intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work effectively with people from across the globe
  • Able to connect research to policy and translate technical information to stakeholders
  • Resume, cover letter, writing samples or relevant technical research publications primarily written by the applicant (in English), and two to three professional references required for application
  • Ability to travel within India and internationally as required
