About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and adapt Python code across ICCT's suite of models covering vehicle emissions, economics, and charging infrastructure
  • Prepare, quality-check, and integrate model input datasets
  • Run models and visualize and interpret results
  • Contribute to published model documentation
  • Follow the team's software development practices
  • Learn about and contribute to research projects quantifying transportation-policy impacts on pollutant emissions, energy consumption, air quality, health, or societal costs
  • Report to a Model Developer in ICCT's Modeling Center

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ongoing studies and a strong academic record in data science, computer science, physics, engineering, or related field
  • University enrollment is a requirement
  • Student in the later stages of a Bachelor's degree or enrolled in a Master's program
  • Interest in vehicle technology, climate change, air quality, energy, environment, public health, or related topics
  • Superior proficiency in data analysis with Python, including pandas, scipy, numpy, and matplotlib
  • Strong command of dataframe operations such as group, merge, pivot, melt, filter, and fill
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, written and verbal
  • Experience authoring and documenting complex software is desirable but not required
  • Familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in the transportation sector is desirable but not required
  • Experience with software version control tools such as Git and GitHub is desirable but not required
  • Familiarity with PyCharm or other Python IDEs such as VS Code is desirable but not required
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau is desirable but not required
  • Application requires a cover letter, resume, two professional or academic references, and a primarily self-authored Python code sample
