About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a direct liaison to the College of Dentistry
  • Provide specialized financial aid counseling and expert guidance to students and parents regarding eligibility, applications, and debt management
  • Manage financial aid for all Dentistry students
  • Interpret federal, state, and institutional regulations and ensure compliance
  • Independently counsel students and parents on financial aid applications, eligibility, budgeting, debt management, and funding strategies
  • Handle complex financial aid cases, troubleshoot issues, and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Manage applications, verification, award adjustments, appeals, and disbursement oversight
  • Process award revisions, scholarships, and student appeals
  • Oversee awarding, packaging, and revision of federal, state, and institutional aid
  • Analyze financial aid eligibility and funding strategies for professional students
  • Ensure proper disbursement and reconciliation of funds
  • Conduct process reviews, maintain records, support reporting, and complete annual HRSA loan operating reports
  • Partner with leadership to enhance financial aid services and advocate for professional students
  • Lead presentations and represent Student Financial Aid in Dentistry initiatives
  • Develop outreach resources, website content, presentations, and communications for Dental students
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to less experienced colleagues
  • Contribute to policy development and process improvements
  • Work in person at both the College of Dentistry and Student Financial Aid Office locations, with the position split 60/40

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4 years of relevant experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings to support College of Dentistry events
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field desired
  • Experience in a financial aid environment highly desired
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and OSU regulations, policies, and procedures desired
  • Demonstrated public speaking and counseling skills desired
  • Ability to work with students and parents from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds desired
  • Ability to work independently, manage complex financial aid operations, and interpret federal regulations desired
  • Cover letter and resume required
  • Successful completion of a background check required for final candidates
