About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and coordinate local and cross-border investigations involving Moldova and neighboring countries
  • Collaborate with Moldovan member centers, partner organizations, independent media, freelancers, and the wider OCCRP network
  • Identify, pitch, and develop cross-border stories involving systemic corruption, organized crime, illicit financial flows, disinformation, and foreign influence campaigns
  • Guide story ideas and reporting plans to meet OCCRP standards and produce high-impact investigations
  • Manage investigations and quick-turnaround stories through pitching, draft editing, fact-checking, and final editing
  • Work with data teams and reporters to scope leaks, datasets, and databases for investigations in Moldova
  • Mentor reporters and ensure rigorous, accurate, and editorially sound reporting
  • Advise editors on reporting feasibility, context, and security considerations
  • Oversee footnotes, fact-checking, and the Right of Reply process
  • Organize coordination meetings with Moldovan partners and regional editorial teams
  • Collaborate with Impact, Audience, Social Media, and Production teams to maximize the reach and visibility of investigations
  • Maintain editorial independence from civil society advocacy efforts
  • Uphold journalistic, legal, ethical, and OCCRP standards
  • Assess physical, digital, and legal threats and coordinate security protocols for at-risk journalists and risky stories
  • Represent OCCRP in the Moldovan media ecosystem and at regional investigative journalism conferences
  • Assist Fundraising and Program teams with regional insight for grant proposals and activity reporting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be based or willing to relocate to Moldova
  • Minimum of 5 years in journalism
  • Extensive experience in investigative reporting, cross-border collaboration and editing
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring teams of reporters in cross-border and collaborative setups
  • Strong background in investigating corruption, illicit money flows, disinformation, and foreign influence operations
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage tight deadlines, and navigate complex and potentially high-risk reporting situations with sound judgment
  • Solid understanding of physical, digital and legal issues necessary for running investigations in Eastern Europe
  • Cover letter, resume, and two examples of investigations worked on, with an explanation of the role played
