Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead multiple Data Engineering Managers, BI Engineering Managers and Lead Engineers across an organisation of around 40 engineers and analysts
  • Create an environment where engineers and leaders can develop skills, progress careers and deliver strong outcomes
  • Provide direction, remove obstacles and foster trust, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Attract and retain top talent while building a diverse, engaged and high-performing engineering organisation
  • Define the future data engineering strategy at Very
  • Set technical direction with Architecture, Product and Technology leaders
  • Drive modernisation, cloud adoption, data platform optimisation and technical debt management
  • Accountable for delivering secure, reliable and scalable data products with business domains
  • Champion engineering excellence and modern practices that improve quality, speed, resilience and operational performance
  • Build stakeholder relationships across technology, product and business functions
  • Translate business priorities into engineering outcomes and influence senior-level decisions
  • Support the continued evolution of Very’s data ecosystem powering reporting, analytics, data science, personalisation and decision-making

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience leading large-scale data engineering organisations within modern technology environments
  • Experience with AWS, Teradata, Fivetran and Power BI
  • Track record of building, developing and inspiring high-performing engineering teams
  • Strong experience delivering data platforms, pipelines and products at scale
  • Previous hands-on experience in Data Engineering
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices
  • Experience working within Agile, DevSecOps and product-led delivery environments
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence influencing at senior levels
  • Experience managing technical debt, engineering roadmaps and platform modernisation initiatives
  • Experience with AWS and cloud-based data platforms
  • Experience with Teradata, Fivetran and modern data integration tooling
  • Business Intelligence and analytical engineering capabilities
  • Experience in multi-cloud or complex enterprise data environments
  • Experience in retail, eCommerce, financial services or similarly data-rich organisations
  • Successful candidates must undertake credit, CIFAS, Right to Work checks and, where specifically required, a DBS check
