About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a registered federal lobbyist for TIAA and Nuveen
  • Develop and execute legislative and regulatory advocacy strategies on enterprise-wide federal policy priorities
  • Represent the organization in direct, in-person engagement with policymakers, including meetings, hearings, and industry events
  • Build and maintain relationships with members of Congress, congressional staff, and federal regulatory agency officials
  • Monitor emerging federal legislation and rulemaking activity and advise senior management of potential risks
  • Counsel leadership on strategic planning for legislative and regulatory activities
  • Brief internal stakeholders and senior leadership on policy developments and business impact
  • Collaborate with industry advocates, trade associations, and industry committees
  • Support leadership when testifying before congressional committees
  • Ensure compliance with government relations laws, regulations, ethics requirements, and lobbying registration and disclosure rules
  • Monitor and communicate performance metrics and operational challenges

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of government relations experience executing legislative and regulatory advocacy strategy on Capitol Hill
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communications
  • Established relationships in Washington, DC
  • Deep knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process
  • Track record of effective advocacy on behalf of a financial services organization, trade association, or comparable institution
  • Knowledge of federal lobbying registration and disclosure requirements
  • Ability to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and ethical concerns related to government relations activities
  • Ability to monitor and communicate performance metrics and operational challenges
  • Physical ability to perform sedentary work
