About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide legal advice and guidance to Nuveen’s asset management and investment management clients, including TIAA
- Support the Nuveen Private Placements business, particularly its asset-backed lending platform
- Provide hands-on counsel to management and support legal department operations
- Represent and advocate for the organization in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other disputes
- Protect organizational rights in contract negotiations, settlements, and litigation
- Negotiate and approve legal contracts, agreements, policies, and other documents
- Identify, evaluate, and address legal risks
- Research, analyze, and interpret laws, statutes, and regulations
- Advise management on legal and regulatory changes
- Liaise with external legal counsel on complex legal issues
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years’ experience advising clients in fixed income investments, including asset-backed securities
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Member in good standing of a state bar
- Preferred: 7+ years’ experience advising clients in fixed income investments, including asset-backed securities
- Expertise in private fixed income investments, particularly asset-backed securities
- Experience with restructurings, workouts, and bankruptcies preferred
- Experience with project finance transactions preferred
- Experience with investment-grade private placements preferred
- Experience with third-party client accounts, including funds, securitizations, and/or separately managed accounts preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
