About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and architect technology solutions for new product development in Insurance Solutions and New Markets
- Lead design reviews and serve as the technical voice while business requirements are forming
- Shape feasible solutions with product partners
- Own Well-Architected Framework Reviews, Impact Assessments, Solution Design Documents, and Architecture Decision Records
- Participate in TIAA’s Technology Architecture Governance process and community
- Communicate technical roadmaps to stakeholders and senior leaders
- Partner with business stakeholders, Cloud Engineering, Cyber, and adjacent technical domains
- Stay engaged through implementation and delivery
- Unblock delivery teams by investigating technologies, resolving decisions, and building proofs of concept
- Use LLMs to pressure-test design tradeoffs, refine design documents, and explore options
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of experience in solution architecture or equivalent technical design roles
- Experience in financial services, including retirement, insurance, or adjacent regulated environments
- Experience with Java, Kafka, and/or containers such as EKS or equivalent
- Experience designing products that are still being defined
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance constraints in architecture decisions
- Familiarity with cloud-native architecture patterns, including domain-driven design, event-driven architectures, and API-first design
- Experience designing for performance, resilience, observability, and cost optimization at scale
- Proven use of LLMs in architecture decision processes
- University degree preferred
