About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Run core people operations, including onboarding, offboarding, employee changes, and records maintenance
- Serve as a trusted first point of contact for employees and managers
- Coach managers through performance, conduct, and team concerns
- Conduct fair and well-documented workplace investigations
- Partner with the VP of People Operations on compensation benchmarking, salary bands, benefits strategy, offers, raises, and annual reviews
- Manage leaves of absence from first request through return to work, including FMLA, state family and medical leave programs, disability, and accommodation requests
- Track and develop policies for federal and state employment law changes affecting the remote workforce
- Maintain required postings and notices and support audits, policy updates, and annual compliance work
- Support HR system rollouts, benefits enrollment, performance cycles, and employee engagement initiatives
- Maintain clean employee data and produce reports for leadership decision-making
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of hands-on experience as an HR or People Operations generalist, handling a broad range of employee questions on your own
- A track record of managing employee relations matters, including investigations, with sound judgment and discretion
- Working knowledge of U.S. employment law and multi-state compliance, including FMLA, ADA and state leave programs
- Experience administering leaves of absence and accommodations from start to finish
- Experience building or improving HR processes and documenting them so others can follow them
- Strong organization skills, accuracy, and close attention to detail
- Clear written and verbal communication with employees at every level
- Experience at a startup or high-growth company (nice to have)
- Experience supporting a remote workforce spread across many states (nice to have)
- Familiarity with HR systems such as Rippling or BambooHR (nice to have)
- Experience with global teams and compliance functions (nice to have)
- HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR (nice to have)
