About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Improve the safety and mobility of transportation systems throughout Minnesota and across the country
  • Solve real-world traffic engineering challenges with a collaborative team
  • Work alongside engineers, designers, and technicians on complex transportation projects for state, county, and local agencies and design-build contractors
  • Collect and analyze traffic data
  • Perform intersection operations, safety, and multimodal evaluations
  • Prepare intersection and corridor studies
  • Conduct analyses using traffic simulation and modeling software
  • Prepare preliminary and final traffic engineering designs
  • Develop construction plans for signing, pavement markings, temporary traffic control, traffic signals, and roadway lighting
  • Gain experience across traffic operations and traffic design

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must currently reside or plan to relocate within a regular commuting distance of the office
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future visa sponsorship
  • Engineer in Training certification or ability to obtain within six months (preferred)
  • Master's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering (preferred)
  • Experience related to traffic engineering or transportation engineering (preferred)
  • Exposure to traffic design or plan development; familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads Designer (preferred)
  • Exposure to traffic operations modeling and crash analysis; experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Software, VISSIM, RODEL, SIDRA, or similar analysis software (preferred)
