About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead complex geotechnical and underground projects
- Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for geotechnical investigations, analyses, and designs involving tunnels, shafts, trenchless installations, deep excavations, retaining systems, and other underground infrastructure
- Guide project teams in evaluating subsurface conditions, geotechnical risks, and practical engineering solutions
- Manage multidisciplinary project delivery and coordinate with civil, structural, water, transportation, survey, and construction teams
- Direct subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing initiatives, and interpretation of geotechnical data
- Develop and maintain client relationships and support proposals, pursuits, project interviews, and business growth
- Support construction through RFIs, submittals, value engineering, claims analysis, field observations, and technical consultation
- Mentor geotechnical engineers, geologists, and engineering staff
- Establish technical standards, improve engineering processes, promote innovation, and support strategic growth initiatives
- Serve as engineer of record, technical reviewer, or quality manager on major projects
- Work with engineers, surveyors, and designers in a multidisciplinary team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; a geotechnical emphasis is preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Minnesota, or ability to obtain Minnesota registration within an agreed-upon timeframe
- 10–25 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience
- Expertise in subsurface investigations, soil and rock mechanics, geotechnical analysis, and technical report development
- Significant technical experience with underground infrastructure, including tunnels, shafts, trenchless installations, deep excavations, or comparable heavy civil projects
- Experience evaluating excavation support, earth retention, slope stability, groundwater control, seepage, settlement, foundations, and geotechnical construction risks
- Strong understanding of underground construction methods and constructability considerations
- Experience providing technical oversight, performing quality reviews, and guiding less-experienced professionals
- Ability to work independently as a senior technical contributor and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to travel as needed for investigations, site visits, construction support, client meetings, and project coordination
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
- Master's degree or higher in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a closely related discipline is advantageous
