About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead traffic engineering projects in traffic design, traffic operations, or both
- Oversee plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports
- Provide technical direction and quality oversight
- Develop project work plans, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans
- Manage delivery and coordinate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary teams
- Monitor scope, schedule, budget, and technical risks
- Coordinate workloads and priorities across technical staff
- Direct and coordinate engineers, designers, and technicians
- Mentor junior staff and support technical and professional development
- Build and maintain relationships with transportation agencies and industry partners
- Identify, pursue, and help secure new project opportunities
- Lead or support proposal development, interviews, and pursuit strategies
- Represent TKDA in client meetings, industry events, and professional organizations
- Partner with the Regional Vice President and Traffic Group Manager to grow TKDA’s transportation presence
- Deliver transportation solutions improving safety and mobility throughout Wisconsin and across the country
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- Professional Engineer registration in Wisconsin, or ability to obtain registration within six months of employment
- Minimum of 10 years of traffic engineering or related transportation experience
- Experience leading traffic engineering projects in traffic design, traffic operations, or both, including multidisciplinary coordination through planning, design, and/or construction
- Experience managing multiple projects, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, client coordination, project delivery, and technical staff workloads
- Experience mentoring staff, providing technical oversight, and supporting technical development
- Business development experience involving client relationship management, opportunity identification, proposal development, interviews, or related activities, with demonstrated success securing new project opportunities
- Experience in traffic design and/or traffic operations
- Working knowledge of Bentley OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D for traffic design
- Working knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Vissim, Rodel, SIDRA, or similar analysis software for traffic operations
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Candidates must currently reside or plan to relocate within regular commuting distance of the Milwaukee office
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
- Required pre-employment background screening, including Social Security, education, criminal conviction, and driving history verification
