About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead traffic engineering projects in traffic design, traffic operations, or both
  • Oversee preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports
  • Provide technical direction and quality oversight
  • Develop project work plans, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans
  • Manage project delivery and coordinate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Monitor scope, schedule, budget, technical risks, and project performance
  • Coordinate workloads and priorities across technical staff
  • Direct and coordinate engineers, designers, and technicians
  • Mentor junior staff and support technical and professional development
  • Build and maintain relationships with public and private clients
  • Identify and track opportunities, and lead or support proposal development and interviews
  • Represent TKDA at client meetings, industry events, and professional organizations
  • Partner with the Traffic Group Manager and Surface Transportation leaders on projects, client relationships, new work, and practice growth

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Professional Engineer registration in Minnesota, or ability to obtain registration within six months of employment
  • Minimum of 10 years of traffic engineering or related transportation experience
  • Experience leading traffic engineering projects in traffic design, traffic operations, or both, including multidisciplinary coordination through planning, design, and/or construction
  • Experience managing multiple projects, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, client coordination, delivery, and technical staff workloads
  • Experience mentoring staff, providing technical oversight, and supporting technical development
  • Experience supporting business development through client relationship management, opportunity identification, proposal development, interviews, or related activities, with demonstrated success supporting or securing new project opportunities
  • Traffic design experience with signing, pavement markings, construction staging and temporary traffic control, traffic signals, and/or roadway lighting
  • Working knowledge of Bentley OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Traffic operations experience with traffic data collection, forecasting, operations analysis, safety evaluations, traffic studies, and/or simulation modeling
  • Working knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, Vissim, Rodel, SIDRA, or similar analysis software
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
  • Must complete pre-employment background screening, including Social Security, educational, criminal conviction, and driving history checks
