About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and evaluate algorithms that turn noisy, incomplete probe data into reliable speed and closure information
- Prototype in Python, then implement in Java in production services and own the change through rollout
- Develop against ground truth and use the results to shape future development
- Evolve existing traffic services used by millions of drivers
- Use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code for exploration, implementation, and analysis, while reviewing outputs and retaining full accountability
- Collaboratively run production systems, including monitoring, incident management, and production support
- Improve traffic services processing 5–6 billion kilometers of driving data every day across 70+ countries
Requirements
What you’ll need- A PhD, or a Master’s degree + 5 years of industry experience, in computer science, mathematics, physics, or another quantitative field
- Python for prototyping and data analysis
- Java (or a comparable typed language) at production experience
- Experience taking algorithmic work from the idea to a production system
- Ability to make trade-offs and explain them to engineers and stakeholders
- Hands-on experience using AI tooling in daily development work
- Clear understanding of how AI tooling helps and where it does not
- Collaborative team-player approach in an international environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- GIS, traffic engineering, or map-matching experience (nice-to-have)
- Experience operating services in production, including Azure or another cloud, CI/CD, monitoring and incident handling (nice-to-have)
- Experience bringing teams together behind one technical initiative and seeing it through to delivery (nice-to-have)
