About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set 6–12 month technical direction across device, app, and cloud
- Translate product priorities into architecture, ownership, and delivery plans
- Lead cross-team initiatives from problem definition through launch and adoption
- Resolve tradeoffs with team leads and identify priority and resource conflicts
- Write critical-path code and build prototypes
- Guide migrations and debug difficult production issues
- Own the practical implementation and outcomes of architecture decisions
- Simplify shared systems and interfaces
- Improve reliability, observability, security, and developer workflow
- Mentor senior and Staff engineers through design, pairing, and shared delivery
- Establish lightweight decision practices that enable team autonomy
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve delivery or quality
- Partner with Data Science, AI, and platform owners on production integrations
- Report to engineering leadership and remain hands-on from design through production
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience leading architecture and delivery across multiple teams at Senior Staff or Principal scope, with measurable results
- Deep backend, distributed systems, and cloud expertise
- Ability to reason across device, mobile, data, and service boundaries
- Experience building and operating production software
- Experience owning difficult integrations or migrations
- Ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs among speed, reliability, security, cost, and maintainability
- Ability to turn ambiguity into focused plans and align technical and nontechnical partners
- Experience developing senior engineers into stronger technical leaders
- Experience with connected devices, consumer subscriptions, fitness, digital health, healthcare integrations, or sensitive-data systems is extra credit
- Experience with AI in production products or engineering workflows is extra credit
- Legally authorized to work in the US and/or Canada
