About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct and write up long-form interviews with senior politicians and other leading political figures
  • Write news stories and long-form policy features about politics and policy
  • Undertake some commissioning
  • Represent The House in broadcast media and other forums to raise the magazine’s profile across Westminster and beyond
  • Create impactful journalism that is picked up by rival publications
  • Use social media to tell stories and lead the online conversation
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including uploading content, when needed
  • Carry out other duties reasonably requested by the direct line manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Deep understanding of British politics at a local and national level
  • Capacity for independent, critical thinking
  • Excellent news judgement
  • An NCTJ qualification or significant evidence of shift work or work experience at media outlets
  • Understanding of how to use social media to gather news
  • Clear plan for the subject areas you wish to cover
  • Thorough understanding of media law, including copyright, defamation and privacy
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
  • Exceptional multitasking skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or independently
  • Strong administration skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
